A damn fine vintage
My morning begins with the scent of fresh coffee and a moment that belongs only to me. Calm slowly spreads through the space, and I stay in it a little longer. Like a good wine, I am maturing, and I am learning to savour each day in its full flavour. I dance through life according to whatever music is playing, and whatever I put on. And the more I allow myself to live it my way, the more I know that I am exactly where I am meant to be.
A morning that tastes of life
Every morning I begin with the same ritual. I get up, go into the kitchen, and make myself coffee. The kind I like. The scent of freshly ground coffee fills the kitchen, slowly unfolds into the space, and I pause for a moment. I hold the mug in my hand, lean against the counter, and simply am. That moment is ordinary and, at the same time, completely essential. It is a quiet beginning of the day.
Once I told myself that I was old enough not to drink bad coffee, and for my birthday I bought myself a lever espresso machine. A gift to myself. A decision that I would no longer deny myself quality.
Life tastes of whatever I allow myself to pour into it
For a long time I lived in “later” mode. When there is more time, when there is calm, when things are done. But life ran on in the meantime, and I organised it more than I lived it. Everything worked, everything made sense, but I was missing the experience of it.
Today I see it differently. Just as I prepare my morning coffee exactly to my taste, I also put the day together consciously. I choose what I give my energy to, whom I let close, what I fill the day with, how I treat myself, and how I speak about myself. Sometimes little is enough for a change. I stopped waiting for the “right moment” and started creating it and living with the awareness that I deserve the best.
I dance according to whatever music is playing
Just as I choose what I pour into my life, there also come moments when it is not entirely to my taste. Every day has a different energy. A different flavour, a different rhythm.
I dance according to whatever music is playing. Sometimes I have the strength to go forward; at other times I naturally draw more into myself. Gradually I have also learned to sense the rhythm of my body. The cycle, the phase I am in, and what comes easily in a given moment — or does not. I stopped forcing myself into performance at times when my body needs calm, and instead I use the energy when it comes.
My youth was ardent, full of strength and a desire to be seen. True humility toward myself came only with age. Along with the ability to know my worth and stand by it. Suddenly you know what suits you, what you no longer want, and what and whom you will let into your life.
I live better in calm
One thing stands above everything for me. Calm. I see it as a basic need that holds everything else together. When I have it, I decide differently, I respond differently, I live differently.
When I lose it, I very quickly notice how it pulls me back. Into pressure, into performance, into old tracks. That is precisely why I return to calm consciously. Every day. In small things. In that morning mug of coffee, in a brief pause during the day, in a breath.
When I am in calm, I savour life in a completely different way.
Life according to my taste
There are vintages that need time. You cannot rush them, you cannot talk them into it. Either they ripen, or they do not. And when they ripen, you know it at once. They have depth, calm, character. They do not push themselves forward; they do not have to draw attention to themselves.
That is exactly how I feel today, too. I know what flavour my life has. I know when it is full, when it is gentle, when it needs calm and when it needs strength. I no longer compare it with anyone else. I do not need it to be the same every day. It is precisely that changeability that gives it value.
I am a damn fine vintage, and I am truly starting to enjoy life.
